The Story

Get Behind the Wheel of History

This is not just a car.

It’s a story. It’s a piece of history. It’s a LEGEND.

And this is your chance to become part of the Bitcoin Car legend.

So what makes this car so legendary?

In 2013, Bitcoin developer Rassah sold 1,000 Bitcoin to buy this Prius, which at the time was equivalent to about $22,000. This and the Bitcoin Pizza were the first notable purchases involving Bitcoin and shortly after this, Bitcoin exploded on the scene as a legitimate and accepted store of value.

The car became a symbol of the turning point in Bitcoin history.

And although the infamous Bitcoin Pizza box is long gone, the “$48M Prius” still remains… and you could be its next owner.

This car has been on quite the journey. Since 2013, it’s been to over 30 Bitcoin events and has transported hundreds of thousands of dollars of cash from early Bitcoin ATMS. In 2021, it sustained some damage in an accident but has since risen from the ashes to resume its place in crypto history.

A Multi-Sig Event:

Bitcoin OGs from all across the country have descended on Miami to tag the car, turning the historic Prius into a museum-worthy mobile masterpiece.

Who will end up holding the keys?

Will a group of Bitcoin enthusiasts go in on a DAO to own the car?

Will it be preserved in a museum?

Will a prominent crypto exchange claim it as their own?

Will it sit in the garage of a Bitcoin king or queen?

Historic “$48M Bitcoin Car” Up For Auction

The legendary First Bitcoin Car will get a new owner to preserve its legacy through an online auction happening now.

MIAMI, Florida – The infamous “Bitcoin Car” that rose to prominence in 2013, after Rassah sold 1,000 Bitcoin to purchase the car, will be auctioned off on Scarce.City on May 10th and showcased during Bitcoin2023 in Miami from May 18th-20th

In 2013, legendary Bitcoin developer Rassah sold 1,000 Bitcoin to buy the Prius and shortly after this transaction, Bitcoin exploded on the scene. In reference to its peak value at the time of publication, the Prius was dubbed the “$48M Prius” by media outlets and the Bitcoin community.

And while the famous “Bitcoin Pizza” is long gone, the Prius remains as a tangible, integral part of Bitcoin “firsts.”

To Bitcoin enthusiasts, the car represents the turning point of digital currency, launching it from simply an idea into an accepted store of value.

“This is more than just a car,” says Devin Konopa, co-owner of the Prius. “It’s a valuable artifact that should be preserved for future generations. Historically, this Prius represents the growth of public awareness, an acceptance of digital currency, and a significant tipping point in the Bitcoin space. One day, I’d hope to see the car in a museum as a cultural icon signifying the remarkable rise of Bitcoin. But for now, anyone has the chance to own this piece of history.”

Since 2013, the Prius has been to over 30 Bitcoin events and transported hundreds of thousands of dollars of cash from early Bitcoin ATMs.

And from now until the auction, Bitcoin OGs from all across the country – including David Bailey, Andreas Antenopolous, Tone Vays, Rassah, and many more – are tagging the car with their signatures, turning the historic Prius into living legend.

The auction for this icon of Bitcoin history kicked off on May 10th on Scarce.City and will close on May 20th through a digital and in-person party in Miami.

Bitcoin Legends Make Their Mark On The First Bitcoin Car, The $48M Prius

BTC Inc. and Bitcoin Magazine CEO, David Bailey, Adds His Name to Bitcoin History by Signing the $48M Prius at Bitcoin2023

Miami, FL – Bitcoin2023 witnessed a remarkable moment as David Bailey, CEO of BTC Inc. and Bitcoin Magazine, added his signature to the infamous $48M Prius, joining the ranks of Bitcoin legends such as Tone Vays, Andreas Antonopolous, David Ripley, Rassah, Samson Mow, Lyn Ulbricht, Johnny Dollar, Pepnardo, Eryka Gemma, Scott Talon, Bruce Fenton, and more.

The $48M Prius, known as the First Bitcoin Car, is currently up for auction on Scarce.City, and the bidding will close this Saturday, May 20th, at 11 pm ET.

This iconic car gained its name after Bitcoin pioneer Rassah sold 1,000 BTC in 2013 to acquire the car (then, only valued at $22,000). Coindesk then picked up the story in 2019, and at the time of publication, Bitcoin’s peak value had the car valued at $48M.

The car is on display at Bitcoin2023, which runs from Thursday, May 18th, to Saturday, May 20th. Interested bidders can participate in the online auction on Scarce.City, with the opportunity to own this historic artifact of the Bitcoin revolution.

In a tribute to the Bitcoin movement and its champions advocating for a decentralized future, the $48M Prius is being signed by esteemed Bitcoin OGs worldwide. This act further solidifies the car’s status as a living legend and a symbol of Bitcoin’s remarkable journey.

David Bailey, the CEO of BTC and Bitcoin Magazine, expressed his enthusiasm, stating “This [car] is an important piece of Bitcoin history. As far as I can remember, it was the first real, serious purchase with Bitcoin. It wasn’t just a pizza from Papa Johns, it was substantial. This car was the original Lambo for Bitcoin.”

David then went on to say that he’d like to own the car himself and would preserve it in a Bitcoin museum.

Since 2013, the Prius has been to over 30 Bitcoin events and transported hundreds of thousands of dollars of cash from early Bitcoin ATMs. To Bitcoin enthusiasts and the broader Bitcoin community, the First Bitcoin Car represents the turning point of digital currency, launching it from simply an idea into an accepted store of value.

And while the famous “Bitcoin Pizza” is long gone, the Prius remains a tangible, integral part of Bitcoin “firsts.”

As a special bonus, all bidders will receive an exclusive auction NFT after placing their first bid, to be distributed post-auction. The winning bidder of the auction will also receive a commemorative 1 of 1 NFT, along with the honor of adding their signature to this significant piece of Bitcoin history. All NFTs will be minted via counterparty on the Bitcoin blockchain.
